One of the greatest feats of Theseus was when he faced Medusa. She was a Gorgon woman with snake hair. Everyone who looked into her eyes had the power to turn them to stone.
Athena gave him a shield so polished that, like a mirror, one could see the reflection as he looked at it. Hades gave him a helmet that makes invisible who uses it, and Hermes gave him his winged sandals, three objects that were definitive for the victory of Perseus.
Without looking into his eyes and with the reflection of the monster in his shield, he manages to cut off Medusa's head.
After managing to kill her, Perseus puts her head in a sack and returns to the house. On the return trip, he falls in love with Andromeda, a beautiful woman who was chained in the middle of the sea.
With her she had eight children: Perseides, Perses, Alceu, Helio, Mestor, Sthenelus, Electrion, Gorgófona (its only daughter).
Consequently, Perseus founded the city of Mycenae and ruled Tirynus.
