Ninjas - Humans

História

The origin of ninjas is obscure and difficult to determine, but it is presumed that it was around the fourteenth century. However, the antecedents of the ninjas may have existed as early as the Heian and early Kamakura era. There are few written records to detail the activities of the ninja.

A ninja (忍者) or shinobi (忍 び) was a secret agent specializing in unorthodox warfare. The ninja's functions included espionage, sabotage, infiltration, assassination, and guerrilla warfare as well as open combat in certain situations. The ninja, using secret methods of making war, were contracted with the samurai, who had strict rules on honor and combat. Just as there were women samurai, there were ninja women called kunoichi. The "shinobi" itself, a group of specially trained spies and mercenaries, appeared in the 15th century during the Sengoku period, but may have existed before in the 14th century, and possibly in the 12th century (Heian or early Kamakura era).

In the agitation of the Sengoku period (15th-17th centuries), mercenaries and spies available to hire, became active in Iga Province and the adjacent area around the village of Kōga, and are of the area clans that much of the ninjas' knowledge is drawn. After the unification of Japan under the Tokugawa Shogunate (seventeenth century), the ninjas disappeared into darkness. A number of shinobi manuals, often based on Chinese philosophies, were written in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, most notably the Bansenshukai (1676).

The word jounin did not exist to describe a ninja as agent until the fifteenth century, and it is unlikely that spies and mercenaries before that time were seen as a specialized group. In the agitation of the Sengoku period (15th-17th centuries), hired mercenaries and spies emerged from the Iga and Koga regions in Japan, and it is from these clans that much of the later knowledge about ninjas is inferred. After the unification of Japan under the Tokugawa shogunate, the ninjas fell into oblivion again. However, in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, manuals such as the Bansenshukai (1676), often centered around China's military philosophy, appeared in significant numbers. These writings revealed a variety of philosophies, religious beliefs, their application in warfare, as well as the espionage techniques that form the basis of ninja art. The word Ninjutsu later came to describe a wide variety of practices related to the ninja.

Some legendary abilities include invisibility, walking on water, and control over natural elements.
