Gondul
Deities - Valkyries
In Norse mythology, Göndul (Old Norse "wand-wielder") is a Valkyrie. Göndul is attested in Heimskringla, Sörla þáttr and a 14th century Norwegian charm. In addition, Göndul appears within the list of valkyries in the poetic poem Edda Völuspá, in both lists of Nafnaulur found in the Prose Edda, and among the valkyries listed in Darraðarljóð .
Gondul is one of the nine Valkyries corrupted by Odin. Sigrun, the queen of the Valkyries, locked Gondul at the end of Muspelheim's challenges, so she would not pose a danger.
Mimir says Gondul: "Gondul was persuasive and witty, and had such a striking figure of making everyone literally mad, so Odin forbade her to step on after a while, because madness is not welcome in Valhalla."
All Valkyries have a helmet that represents an animal. The rudder of Gondul represents the vulture.
The name Göndul is etymologically rooted in the Old Norse gandr (meaning "magic, magic wand"), but in the Norwegian charm "Göndul" seems to mean "magical animal, werewolf," and that, whatever the case, magical associations that are certainly related to the function of the Valkyries as directors of human destiny."
Story
The word valkyrie derives from the old Norse valkyrja (plural valkyrjur), which is composed of two words; the noun valr (which refers to the dead in battle) and the verb kjósa (meaning "to choose"). Together, they mean "choosing the dead." The old Norse valkyrja is a cognate of the old English wælcyrge. Other terms for valkyries include óskmey (old Norse "desired servant"), appear in the poem Oddrúnargrátr and Óðins meyjar (old Norse "servant of Odin"), appears in Nafnaþulur. Óskmey may be related to the name of Odin Óski (Old Norse, meaning approx. "Ombudsman's wish"), referring to the fact that Odin hosted dead warriors in Valhalla.
The original valkyries were Brunhilda ("battle correspondent"), Sigrun ("rune of victory"), Skogul ("battle"), Prour ("power"), Herfjotur ("war fetter"), Raogrior god "), Gunnr (" battle lance "), Skuld (" that which transforms "), Sigrdrifa (" storm of victory "), Svava, Hrist (" the agitator "), Skeggjold "), Hildr (" battle "), Hlokk (" battle crash "), Goll (" battle cry "), Randgrior (" peace shield "), Reginleif that causes tumult ") and Gondul (" enchanted wand "or" werewolf ").
