Antíopa

Amazon - Humans

Antíopa is an Amazon princess daughter of Ares (god of war) and Otrera (queen of the Amazons).

Antíopa is an Amazon and is very confused with Antíope (mother of Amphion) and queen of Tebas. He witnessed the war caused by Hera among the men of Hercules, including Theseus and the Amazons. Later versions say that she is the mother of Hipólito with Theseus, others (more accepted like Dreams of a summer night) say that he kidnapped Hipólita, and when this one returned home was accidentally killed by the sister Pentesiléia during a hunt. The sister did not succeed and there are no reports (yet) of other points in the life of Anicopa.

According to Pindar, she was abducted by Theseus and Pirithus.

According to Hellas of Trezena, she fell in love with Theseus during the siege of Temiscira in Termodonte by Heracles and his allies, and she betrayed the strength to Theseus.

The Athenians, however, at the time of Pausanias (geographer), said that it was struck by Molpadia when the Amazons attacked Athens, and Molpadia, in turn, was killed by Theseus.

The Amazons

The Amazons (in Ancient Greek: Αμαζόνες, transl. Amazons), in Greek mythology, were the members of an ancient nation of women warriors of Greek mythology. Herodotus placed them in a region situated on the borders of Scythia in Scythia.

Among the famous queens of the Amazons are Pentesileia, who would have participated in the War of Troy, and her sister, Hippolyta, whose magical belt was the object of one of the twelve works of Hercules. Amazon raiders were often depicted in battles against Greek warriors in Greek art, in the so-called amazonomaquias.

In Greco-Roman historiography, there are several reports of invasions of the Amazons in Anatolia. The Amazons were associated with various historical peoples, throughout late antiquity. From the modern period, its name came to be associated with women warriors of the present time. The term Amazon is often used to refer to women who ride horses by participating in riding or dexterity tests.
