Samuel

Prophets - Human
  • Great Prophets
Prophets are characters that can change the course of our story.

The prophecies are reserved exclusively for the prophets (neither gods, nor mages, nor priests, nor necromancers, nor seers or any person who does not exercise the authority of prophet, can create prophecies)
Note: For a prophecy to be made or fulfilled, the presence of a prophet is necessary.

    *  The Prophecies

For a prophecy to be cast, it is enough for a prophet to predict it.
For a prophecy to be fulfilled, it is necessary that the elements that compose it are in tune.
Eg: The enemy will sink before our lands.
In this case, it is necessary for an enemy ship or fleet to enter its waters. This is the alignment that will make the prophecy come true: nature will be moved by the force of prophecy and will make it fulfilled.

Samuel

Prophets - Human

Samuel (= in the name of El, ca. 1056-1004 BCE) son of Elkanah and Hannah of the region of Ephraim. Last Judge in Israel and first to be called a prophet. For Israeli history Samuel was the one who inaugurated the monarchy when he anointed Saul, the first king of Israel.

Story
Samuel conquered ever greater favor with the God of the gods Yahweh and with the men.

As he was called by Yahweh:

Samuel, as a young man, lived with Eli the priest. Eli, old and obscure from vision, lay down to sleep, with Samuel in the Temple of Yahweh, where the Ark was. Then Yahweh called Samuel! Yahweh then revealed to him his purposes.

All Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized him as being appointed to be a prophet of Yahweh.

As judge

Samuel became the leader of his people.
During the war with the Philistines, the Ark was taken by the enemy. After their mere presence among the Philistines brought them suffering, it was returned and taken to Kirjath-jearim. While there, Samuel spoke to the children of Israel, calling them to return to Yahweh and to turn away from strange gods, that they might be delivered from the hands of the Philistines.
The proof came to Mizpah, where, at the call of Samuel, all Israel had gathered, under the promise that he would cry out to Yahweh for the lot of the people.
When the Philistines assembled in battle, Yahweh thundered with a great thunder upon them, they were smitten before Israel. As a memorial of victory, Samuel erected a stone between Mizpah and Xen, calling it Ebenezer. This overwhelming defeat kept the Philistines in check every day of Samuel

When he had aged, the elders begged Samuel to give them a king, as all the nations had kings. (This King would become the hero Saul)

In the midst of the crisis, Samuel met Saul, who came to consult a seer, on some lost tips. Yahweh had already informed him of Saul's coming and had ordered him to anoint the visitor. When Saul asked the way to the seer's house, Samuel revealed his identity to the Benjamite and ordered him to go with him to the sacrificial meal in the high place, for which about thirty people had been invited. It showed great honor to Saul, who was surprised and unable to reconcile these marks of deference with his humble origin and position. The next morning, Samuel anointed him, giving signs to him that, having taken place, would show that Yahweh was with him.

King Saul

In preparation for the installation of Saul, Samuel summoned the people at Mizpah, where the private anointing of Saul was confirmed by his choice by lot. Samuel is also reported to have participated actively in the coronation of Saul in Gilgal. He took the opportunity to rehearse before the people his own life and assure his recognition of his probity. After a solemn warning to the people to be loyal to Yahweh, Samuel, as a sign that the demand of a king was fundamentally unjust, caused thunder and rain.

King David

Nothing is said about Samuel until David escaped to him in Ramah when he accompanied his fugitive friend to Naiot. There, through Samuel's intervention, the messengers of Saul, as Saul did later, became the prophets before Samuel. The end of Samuel is told in a very brief note: "Samuel is dead; and all Israel gathered themselves together, and lamented him, and buried him in his house in Ramah. David arose and went down into the wilderness of Paran. "(I Samuel 25: 1). But after his death, Saul, through the witch of En-Dor, called Samuel from his grave, only to hear from him a prediction of his impending fate (1 Samuel 28: 3 ff.).

In the name of Yahweh, Samuel announced the ascent of David to the throne.
