Icarus
Humans - Greek Mythology
Icarus (Greek: Ἴκαρος, transl .: Ikaros; Latin: Icarus; in Etruscan Vikare), in Greek mythology, was the son of Daedalus and is commonly known for his attempt to leave Crete flying - unsuccessful attempt in a fall that culminated in his death in the waters of the Aegean Sea, more properly in the part known like Sea Icário.
Icarus was the son of Daedalus and a slave of Persephone (goddess of herbs, flowers, fruit and perfume).
Daedalus, expelled for having killed his nephew Perdix, took refuge on the island of Crete, along with King Minos. After the birth of the Minotaur, the fruit of love between Pasiphae (Minos's wife) and a divine bull (V. Minos), he and his son Icarus built the labyrinth of the Minotaur, in which imprisoned the monster. Some time later, the Minotaur was killed by Theseus (V. Theseus and V. Minotauro).
After the death of the Minotaur, Daedalus was imprisoned, along with his son, in the labyrinth. Then they built artificial wings from wax of bee honey and feathers of birds of various sizes, shaping it with your hands to get as real wings. That way he managed to escape. First, however, he warned his son not to fly too close to the sun, so he could not melt the wax wings, and not too close to the sea, as this could leave the heaviest wings. However Icarus did not listen to his father's advice and taken by the desire to fly close to the sun, eventually crashing and fell in the Aegean Sea, and drowned in the area that now bears his name, Icariano Sea near Icaria, one island southwest of Samos.
