Poseídon

Gods - Greek mythology

Poseidon is the Greek god of the sea, earthquakes, storms and horses. Protector of the waters and auxiliary of the sailors, also was called of God of the fertility.

Owner of an unstable and violent temperament, he was considered a vengeful god, with explosive behavior and difficult humor. There are many events that point to his anger and, in one of them, the eye of the father of an opponent.

He lived in the depths of the ocean and the storms, storms, and tsunamis that occurred at sea were provoked by him.

Poseidon is one of the three rulers of the world, along with Zeus, god of the sky, and Hades, god of the underworld. In Roman mythology, it is called Neptune.

Generally Poseidon is represented as a strong man with a beard and holding a trident, which grants him powers and is considered his symbol.

With the trident, he ruled the seas and was responsible for the storms that occurred. In addition, this object had the function of causing water to sprout from the soil. In some versions he appears holding a dolphin (dolphin).

Story

Son of Cronos and Reia, Poseidon is brother of Zeus, Hades, Demeter, Hestia and Hera. According to Greek mythology, he would not have been swallowed by his father, Cronos, because the mother avoided pretending to have given birth to a horse. The same fate had Zeus, which was preserved.

After defeating the Titans, Poseidon, Hades and Zeus were allowed to divide the world to rule. Hades chose the underworld and Zeus the heavens. Already Poseidon became lord of all waters.

He had a crush on his sister Demeter who, to escape his onslaughts, became a horse. Poseidon, for his part, became a stallion and chased after his sister. The two generated a horse that was called Arion.

Poseidon was a lover of many women. He married Amphitrite, a mermaid, and they had Triton, half man and half fish. With Medusa he was the father of Pegasus, a flying horse.
