Creatures - Greek mythology

Griffin is a legendary winged creature with eagle head and wings and lion's body. The griffins made their nests of gold like any other animal, yet the raw material of the nests was of gold. Another difference would be the fact that griffins did not lay their eggs in these yes, but agates. Agate is a type of quartz usually used for making jewelry and ornaments.

The griffin figure emerged in the Middle East, where it was represented by sculptures, paintings and reliefs on walls. It is directly related to the Zoroastrian religion. They were also related to the symbols used by the magicians and priests of that religion. Since they were beings that had kites, they were believed to have links to the celestial world. He was considered the symbol of heavenly and earthly wisdom by having wings and at the same time having a lion's head, forming a syncretism between the supernatural world and the terrain.

Even in Greece, griffins were treated as guardians. In the case of Dionysius, the Griffins protected their crater of wine. Already by Apollo they were used by Apollo to keep his treasures in Hyperborea, a mythical land in a place to the north. Another god who uses them as faithful "watch dogs" was Zeus, the god of thunder.

In fact, the characteristics of the griffins are compared to those of the great vultures, which are found in southern Europe, Southwest Asia and also Africa.

Like many fantastic animals, including centaurs, mermaids, phoenix, among others, the griffin symbolizes a zodiacal sign, due to the sense of fairness, valorizing the arts and intelligence, and dominating the skies and air, symbolizes the pound sign, the so-called balance.
